  • 2004 SEAAIR CONFERENCE / Wenzhou, PR China


     

    The Fourth SEAAIR Annual conference was held in Wenzhou, PR China on 21-23 September 2004. The Theme was "Entrepreneurial University of the 21st Century" and was organized by a Local Organizing Committee (LOC) chaired by Professor Kong Fansheng, Vice-Chancellor of Wenzhou University. Mr Yan Jun ably assisted as Secretary of the LOC and staff of Wenzhou University helped as members of paper editors and as chairpersons of parallel sessions. The venue was the Overseas Chinese Hotel, Wenzhou. Conference and accommodation facilities were excellent. A one-day Pre-Conference Workshop on Practical Quality Improvement in Higher Education was given by Dr Nirwan Idrus a consultant in Quality in Higher Education and was well attended. The Post-Conference Tour to Yan Dang Mountain was also well arranged and enjoyed by the participants.

    Over 100 abstracts were offered by authors from more than 12 countries and about 60 were presented in addition to 3 Keynote presentations by Professor Dr Anuwar Ali, President and Vice-Chancellor of Open University Malaysia, Professor Kong Fansheng, Vice-Chancellor of Wenzhou University, PR China and Dr John Muffo, Director of Academic Assessment Program at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, USA. The International Forum attracted a presentation by the Indonesian Director-General for Higher Education, Professor Dr Ir Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro on Higher Education Reform.

    Total participants reached over 120 from over 10 countries, namely PR China (including Macao), Malaysia, Indonesia, The Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan, Papua New Guinea, USA, UK, Australia and New Zealand. Wenzhou University students helped as guides and interpreters for foreign participants at the conference and on external excursions.

    An Annual General Meeting of SEAAIR was held during the conference. In accordance with its Constitution the Executive Committee for 2004 – 2007 was also elected and the line up is as follows:

    An excellent multimedia presentation by the LOC of SEAAIR 2005 was given at the Closing Ceremony of the Conference. The 2005 Conference will be held in Bali, Indonesia and is being organized by Widyatama University of Bandung, Indonesia.
